Before and after: how a designer transformed an apartment in a 1978 panel house for a married couple

Customers and tasks
The owners of this three-room apartment in a typical II-49D panel house are an adult married couple, owners of two cats and a dog. The wife is an English teacher and tutor, the husband holds a senior position in a pharmaceutical company. Their children have grown up, moved away from their parents, so it’s time to update the interior. For this, the couple invited designer Inna Chashina.
The family needed to equip a separate room for an office-rest area, install a digital piano there, think over spacious storage systems for things and an extensive library, make a spacious bathroom with a laundry area, think over the functionality of the kitchen to fit everything you need in a small area (only 6 squares). , provide a large dining table. Spouses love to receive guests, so extra beds were needed.
redevelopment
The apartment is located on the 9th floor of a panel house. Previously, the owners made an opening between the kitchen and the living room and agreed on this. In the new project, Inna decided to combine the bathroom and the bathroom and used the corridor leading to the kitchen to expand the bathroom.
There was a long, dark and non-functional corridor between the entrance area and the rooms. This problem was also solved with the help of redevelopment. The partitions between the corridor and the living room were removed, thus expanding the room and reducing the passage space.
The master bedroom was moved to a room that was previously a children’s room. There were already two wardrobes. The far room with a loggia was taken as an office-recreation area. The room was irregular in shape, two small storerooms were also mounted there, which were used for household storage and things. The loggia was attached to the room by removing the window block (now in Moscow this can only be agreed upon if there is a glass partition — ed. editions).
Finishing
The walls in all rooms, even in the kitchen, are decorated with wallpaper. Patterned canvases were used on one wall in the living room, which borders the kitchen, and in the bedroom.
Laminate was laid on the floor with a single sheet, with the exception of the entrance area and the kitchen, tiles were used there. In the bathroom, porcelain stoneware was combined to look like black stone and wood.
Furniture and storage systems
As the owners wanted, the storage systems are carefully thought out. The master bedroom already had two walk-in closets, freeing up the room from free-standing storage systems. They are located on both sides at the entrance to the room.
In the recreation area-study there are shelves for books and decor, built-in pantries for household items.
In the hallway there is a built-in wardrobe for outerwear with a mezzanine section.
In the hallway area of the living room there is a chest of drawers from IKEA, painted in furniture production. Further along the corridor, illuminated bookcases were installed, where the customer’s library was located.
Small kitchen used to the maximum. Here is a corner suite with an upper row of cabinets. There is a free-standing two-door refrigerator and a column, which was installed at the doorway, with a built-in oven and microwave. The dining table was placed in the living room. If necessary, it unfolds and moves to the sofa. Extra beds are also thought out — these are sofas in the living room and study.
The bathroom has a column of washer and dryer with a small cabinet above them. Hygiene items can be stored in the cabinet under the sink and on the open shelves in the bath area.
Lighting
The designer thought of different lighting scenarios. The general ceiling light in the living room and corridor is solved by track lights. Ceiling chandeliers in the bedroom and office. In the hallway there is a suspension with a glass ceiling. In the bedroom, the lighting scenarios were supplemented with a pendant at the dressing table and a sconce next to the bed. In the bathroom, they made a spectacular backlight with a mirror.
This three-room apartment is located in Moscow in the Yasenevo district, outside the windows there are trees and a cozy quiet courtyard. The house got into the frame of the film “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears”, which impresses the owners of the apartment very much. I was inspired by the customers themselves — Elena and Vladimir! Ready for any experiment, from moving the bedroom from one room to another, ending with bright colors and a gray ceiling in the bathroom. I wanted them to enjoy the interior in which they live, and they were comfortable. What happened.
